WHAT IS WEATHERCAMP?

The NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences (NCAS) invites you to join us in the Puerto Rico Weather Camp. In this residential camp you will explore the fields of meteorology, atmospheric sciences, and oceanography, among others. Through numerous seminars, workshops, interactive activities and field trips you will gain knowledge about diverse topics including tropical meteorology, impact of climate change in the Caribbean, atmospheric research, and ocean observing systems. In addition, you will also have the chance to meet experts in these fields and learn about the different careers and opportunities in these areas.

FAQ?

WHO IS ELEGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN WEATHERCAMP?
High School Students, grades 9 to 11, enrolled in public or private schools in Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands or Continental USA. Applicants must be US citizens and fully bilingual (Spanish and English).

WHERE DOES THE PR WEATHERCAMP TAKE PLACE?
Most PR Weather Camp events take place at the Mayaguez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, specifically at the Isla Magueyes Field Station. The Field Station is located in La Parguera Fishing Village, Lajas (Southwestern PR). Additional field trips and activities will require travel around the Island.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF THE PR WEATHER CAMP?
June 23 to 29, 2013

WHAT ARE SOME ACTIVITIES OF THE CAMP?
Seminars, workshops, field trips, site visits and hands-on activities

IS THIS A RESIDENTIAL CAMP?, WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?
Yes, the Weather Camp is a residential camp. Students stay in the Department of Marine Sciences Field Station dorms.

WHAT IS THE COST FOR THE PRWC?
The camp is free. We cover registration, lodging and meals!!

HOW DO I APPLY?
Visit http://ncas.howard.edu/outreach/WeatherCamp/, complete the application 2013 NCAS CAREERS Camp Application and mail complete application package to Dr. Yasmin Detres, PR Weather Camp contact person.

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE APPLICATION PACKAGE?
The application package must include:

Personal statement (1 page)
Recommendation letters (2)
Official high school transfer
